Planet Fitness to open in Henderson

Area residents will soon have a wider range of fitness options to choose from later this year when a new Planet Fitness location is slated to open off Beckford Drive in the Henderson Marketplace shopping center.

According to a Planet Fitness news release, the new location, which will be located in the former Save-A-Lot store at 967 S. Beckford Drive, is currently undergoing renovations and tentatively set to open in December, but the club is expected to begin membership presales in September.

Membership cost at the gym will start at a base of $10 a month and the 21,000 square foot location will feature more than 200 pieces of equipment, plenty of TVs, tanning rooms and message options.

Owned and operated by Excel Fitness Holdings out of Texas, the new Planet Fitness in Henderson will mark the 16th in North Carolina.

Dennis Jarvis, Director of the Henderson-Vance County Economic Development Commission, said that the news of the Planet Fitness locating in Henderson was big news for Henderson and the surrounding area.

“I think it is great that we got that kind of national brand making an investment in the community…” Jarvis said. “Henderson is a diversifying, growing economy. [Planet Fitness’] investment is not going to go unnoticed.”

Excel Fitness President Michael Turner stated in the release that he was excited that Henderson was the next market that Planet Fitness would be expanding to.

“Planet Fitness is incredibly excited to expand its footprint in NC, and most importantly make a positive impact to the community in the Henderson area,” Turner said.
