Vance County is located in north-central North Carolina on the Virginia border. The County seat, Henderson, is less than an hour’s drive to the larger urban area of Raleigh/Durham.  This provides a small-town environment and yet allows for residents to take advantage of some of the more metropolitan resources big cities can offer. Due to the county’s advantageous location the average annual temperature is around 60 degrees that allows for our residents to take advantage of our year-round amenities,

Vance County is the “Home of Kerr Lake” one of the largest lakes in North Carolina and the entire Southeast. The lake offers over 850 miles of shoreline which stretches across Vance County and the North Carolina/Virginia state line. The Lake provides camping, boating, swimming, water skiing, sailing and fishing opportunities year-round. There are two marinas and numerous boat ramps for easy lake access. The lake is teaming with largemouth and striped bass, catfish, crappies and more.

The area hosts two country clubs with golf courses, tennis courts and four pools for their members. The City/County Recreation Department and the Henderson Family YMCA offer a full schedule of year-round activities in a variety of sports, fitness programs. In addition, the Aycock Center is a community facility with an Indoor Pool, a full Gym with league play, a Fitness Center and an Indoor Track. There are also bowling, roller skating, and putt-putt facilities to go along with our numerous parks, movie theater and a competitive motor cross park.

Vance is the home of Maria Parham Medical Center which is part of the Duke-Lifepoint system.  It is the region’s premier healthcare provider, with over 150 physicians and 700 clinical and support staff.  It offers a wide variety of services and the latest technology to meet the healthcare needs of the community.  It has a physician staffed 24-hour Emergency Room.

It is hoped with this addition that it will attract both local residents and out-of-town visitors that will add to the Quality of Life.
